=============================================================================== Upgrading BIOS/DOS System from v2.00 to v3.20 =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT Reverting to v2.00 may require sending unit to ICL ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unfortunately, you cannot easily revert from v3.XX to v2.00. The problem is that the file system drivers in v3.XX write additional information to the file system that the v2.00 file system drivers do not understand. As a result, if you try to go back to v2.00, the file system becomes unwritable. The only way to revert is to send the PCOS or ICL-4300 to ICL for reformatting, or reformat the flash drive yourself using a PCOS Evaluation Board and Evaluation Board boot flash. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Software Compatibility ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before you upgrade your BIOS/DOS System be aware of the following important software compatibility dependencies: ISaGRAF ISaGRAF Target Kit v2.00b2 or later requires BIOS/DOS System v3.01 or later. ISaGRAF Target Kit v1.30 or earlier requires BIOS/DOS System v2.00. ICL-4300 C SDK ICL-4300 C SDK v2.60b9 or later requires BIOS/DOS System v3.01 or later. ICL-4300 C SDK v2.60b8 or earlier requires BIOS/DOS System v2.00. PCOS C SDK PCOS C SDK v2.00b5 or later requires BIOS/DOS System v3.01 or later. PCOS C SDK v2.00b4 or earlier requires BIOS/DOS System v2.00. EasyLink EASYLINK.EXE requires BIOS/DOS System v3.01 or later. Programs compiled with newer versions of the C SDK will generate an error message if run on the wrong BIOS version (i.e. if you run EASYLINK.EXE on BIOS v2.00). If you run an older program which uses NVRAM, however, on a newer BIOS system (v3.01 or later) you will probably not get an error message, but the program will not work properly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Upgrade Procedure ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To upgrade your PC on a Stick (PCOS) or ICL-4300, follow this procedure: 1. Obtain the files SYSUP.BAT and SYSUPF.EXE. They may be downloaded from ICL's WebSite (www.iclinks.com). In the "Download Software" ftp area, they may be found in the following directory: pcos\sys\v2.00Tov3.20 2. Transfer SYSUP.BAT and SYSUPF.EXE to your PCOS or ICL-4300 to the root directory of the C: drive (C:\). See the ICL-4300 Utilities Manual for details on transferring files. 3. Make sure you have at least 1 MB of free disk space on your C: drive. To determine the amount of free space, type the "dir" command at the PCOS or ICL-4300 DOS prompt, as shown in the following example: C:\>dir Volume in drive C has no label Volume Serial Number is 200D-1006 Directory of C:\ COMMAND COM 28,957 04-29-1998 10:53a TRANSFER EXE 12,244 01-14-1997 5:36p AUTOEXEC BAT 30 08-13-1997 3:26a . . . SYSCFG EXE 29,424 07-13-1998 2:37p 18 file(s) 194,800 bytes 1,581,568 bytes free As the last line of the directory listing shows, in this case areas about 1.5 MB of free space, which is adequate to complete the upgrade. If not enough disk space is available, you must delete some files. 4. Start the system upgrader using the following command at the DOS prompt on the PCOS or ICL-4300: C:\>SYSUP 5. The upgrade procedure will then proceed automatically. If you have any problems or questions, call Industrial Control Links Technical Support at 1-800-888-1893, or send email to icl@iclinks.com.
