ICL-4300 "PC in a Brick"

Internet Features

The ICL-4300 is available with several hardware and software features that allow you to take advantage of Internet technologies and connectivity:

  • Ethernet (10BaseT)
  • Serial ports and internal modem (for PPP connections)
  • Web server (HTTP)
  • FTP server & client
  • Telnet support

Ethernet

The ICL-4300 is available with 10BaseT ethernet, using a standard RJ-45 modular jack. Tie into your plant floor network, corporate LAN or the Internet. Connect the ICL-4300 to a hub or switch for multipoint networks or directly connect it to a PC or another ICL-4300 with a crossover cable.

Serial ports and internal modem

The serial ports and internal modem (option) can be used to support standard PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) connections. This can be useful if an Internet connection is not available or you need to dial into the unit for remote maintenance, monitoring or to download a data log file.

Web server

A Web server is available For the ICL-4300. This allows you to create Web based user interfaces to your ICL-4300 application programs. The implications of this are quite significant:
  • no special software (such as an expensive SCADA package) is required for the user; he can use the Web browser that he already has
  • allows you to create interfaces that are accessible anywhere in the world (with password security, if desired)

FTP server & client

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is supported on the ICL-4300. The ICL-4300 can act as either a server, client or both. FTP can be very useful for updating application programs or configuration files, and transferring data log or alarm log files.

Telnet

Using the Telnet protocol, you can access a remote command prompt on the ICL-4300. This is a very convenient way of performing system maintenance and monitoring (check for errors, change the time/date or even reboot the unit).
